Kommunikasie: Verwarring en verdwaling in vertaling

Hoekom is kommunikasie so ingewikkeld? As ons dit ontleed: ons kommunikeer elke dag, gemiddeld tussen 160 en 200 woorde per minuut. Met tye meer, veral as ons rooi in die nek word.

‘n Mens sal veralgemeen, omdat ons dit heeldag doen, behoort kommunikasie eenvoudig te wees. Daar is ‘n boodskap – ‘n kanaal vir die kommunikasie – en ‘n ontvanger.

Dit klink baie soos ‘n liefdesdriehoek, iemand gaan iewers tweede kom!

Miskien is dit die kanaal in kommunikasie wat die probleem veroorsaak. Kom ons wees eerlik, ons kies die kanaal wat ons die beste pas.

Haastige Hannie gaan veel eerder ‘n sms gebruik as om betrokke te word in ‘n oproep waar sy na al die klagtes van die week moet luister. Analitiese Anton gaan seker maak dat sy boodskap duidelik is in ‘n e-pos, swart op wit, in paragrawe wat sê wat hy gaan sê, dit dan sê wat hy gesê het.

Duidelik is dit eerder nodig om die kanaal volgens die konteks en die ontvanger te kies, en nie net volgens persoonlike voorkeur nie.

Ai, en laat ons nie vergeet van die groot “E” nie. Die ego… Die ego in kommunikasie is ‘n monster van emosie wat woorde kan vertaal in ‘n taal wat nog nie eers geskryf is nie. Vandag werk ’n sin, more beledig dié sin iemand so dat die verhouding onherstelbaar is. Ons kommunikasie pas by ons buie, soms vier “seisoene” in een dag.

Sal dit nie help as ons fokus op die konteks, die kern van die boodskap plaas nie, en die emosie los vir wanneer ons sepies kyk nie?
