My Year of Grace
I stopped with New Year’s resolutions years ago, but I do choose a word for the year. ‘Grace’ for 2024 was perfect.
For most of us, this was an especially tough one. My takeaways of 2024:
- When you face-plough on a run, lie in a foetal position for at least 5 minutes. You can recover, feel less sorry for yourself, and hopefully, passersby will think it is an intentional rest.
- Don’t fill your day with too many commitments. It is sad when joy equals a cancellation.
- Listen to your body- it knows when it is time to stop or rest.
- Find something even if you’re bad at it – and do it with passion. I must be the uncoolest boogie boarder in the waves.
- Detox, now and then, from all devices. After the anxiety stage of not being available, it is liberating.
- Age is only a society-constructed identity. Create your own.
- Take risks…yes, you may look stupid (I started a YouTube channel!). It is a healthy way to stay humble and to learn.
- Show, don’t tell. “Walk” your values, relationships, respect, integrity…
- Have a beginner’s mindset. The moment you think you know it all is dangerous.
- Just do it. Motivation may never come.
- Intuitive intelligence is your guardian angel. Listen to your gut.
- Edith Eager’s “you can’t heal if you don’t feel” is true. And hard.
- Work/life balance is a myth. Be in the moment wherever you are.
